The Ants and the Storm

An ant colony buzzed with activity as everyone gathered food since early morning. Some of the older ants noticed dark, heavy storm clouds building far off on the horizon and warned the others to prepare to head back to the nest.

But some of the young ants didn't want to stop playing. 'There's still plenty of time,' they said, and kept chasing each other around, ignoring the warning entirely.

Before long, the storm arrived fast and hard. Rain poured down in sheets, flooding into the colony's tunnels and threatening to sweep everything away.

Ants of every age sprang into action together. Some held up big leaves overhead like shields, while others rushed the food and the eggs up to higher, drier ground.

When the storm finally passed, the colony was safe — all because everyone had worked together. The young ants learned just how important teamwork is, and promised to take warnings seriously next time.

When everyone works together and takes warnings seriously, even the biggest storms can be overcome.
