The Little Seed That Waited

In a garden full of flowers, a tiny seed was planted in the soft, dark soil. The seed was so excited — it dreamed of blooming into a beautiful flower right away. "I want to be a flower right now!" it whispered impatiently to itself.

Day after day passed. Rain fell and soaked the seed, and warm sunshine reached down to greet it, but the seed still hadn't sprouted above the ground. It began to feel discouraged and sad. "Why haven't I become a flower yet? I've been waiting for so long."

An earthworm living nearby heard the seed grumbling and slid over kindly to say hello. "You're not just sitting still, you know," the earthworm said. "Look — right now you're growing strong little roots underground. You can't see them from above, but those roots are exactly what will help you grow tall and steady one day."

The seed felt much better after hearing this. It decided to keep waiting patiently without grumbling anymore, and focused on growing the strongest roots it possibly could. Day after day, through the winter, its roots grew stronger and reached deeper into the soil.

When spring finally arrived, warm sunshine and gentle rain fell softly over the garden. Suddenly, the seed felt itself pushing up through the soil, and at last, it blossomed into the most beautiful, colorful flower in the whole garden. It smiled happily, finally understanding just how important all that quiet waiting underground had been.

Real growth takes time and patience, even when the changes can't be seen right away.
