Hoot Tales

The Boy and His First Snowman

On the first snowy day since moving to his new neighborhood, a boy was thrilled to see white snow blanketing every street and rooftop. But looking around, he felt a quiet loneliness too — he didn't have a single friend to play with yet.

He decided to build his very first snowman all by himself. But the snowball was heavy and much too big to roll alone. He pushed with all his strength, breaking a sweat despite the freezing air, yet it barely moved.

Just then, a neighbor kid walking by noticed him struggling and ran over to help push the snowball. With two of them pushing together, the snowball rolled so much more easily — and it was suddenly much more fun, too.

Together, the two of them finished building their snowman, then decorated him with an old scarf they found, two round stones for eyes, and a carrot they spotted lying nearby for a nose.

The two boys stood back, admiring the snowman they had built together with pride. The boy smiled wide, realizing he had just made his first friend in the new neighborhood. Together, they kept playing happily in the snow until the sky turned dark.

Friendship often begins with a small act of helping each other, and the courage to open up to someone new.
