Hoot Tales

The Crow and the Shiny Things

A young crow adored collecting shiny things above all else. A golden bottle cap, a glimmering piece of foil, a sparkling button — he carried each one back to his nest every day, and the pile grew higher and higher, filling him with pride.

The young crow's nest grew so packed with treasures that the branch began to bend. His bird friends warned him it was getting too dangerous, but he wouldn't listen. He flew farther and farther each day chasing new shiny things, until he had no time left to play with his friends at all.

One day a fierce wind blew through, and the branch that had held the heavy nest for so long finally snapped. All the shiny treasures tumbled down, scattering across the ground below. The young crow cried out in shock, watching his whole hoard vanish before his eyes.

A dear sparrow friend flew over to comfort him and offered a single smooth, glimmering pebble she had found, given with love. The young crow held the little pebble close and felt it meant more to him than his entire lost pile of treasures ever had.

The young crow built a new nest and kept only the few favorite things that truly meant something to him. His nest was light enough now that he could fly and play with his friends every single day. He smiled, happier than he had ever been.

Happiness isn't about having the most — it's about knowing when you have enough and cherishing what truly matters.
