The Mountain Goat in the Thick Fog

On a steep, towering mountain lived a young goat who loved leaping across narrow cliff gaps to save time. Even when the other goats warned it was dangerous, it would just laugh and bound ahead of everyone else.

One morning, an unusually thick fog rolled over the entire mountain. Wherever the young goat looked, it saw only white — it couldn't even see its own hooves. For the first time, it felt unsure of itself.

The young goat tried to leap across a shortcut as it always did, but misjudged the step and nearly fell off the cliff. It clung to the rocky edge in sheer terror, heart pounding, realizing its old ways wouldn't work in fog this thick.

The young goat changed its approach. It lowered its head to sniff the ground and listened to the wind for guidance, then stepped forward carefully, one hoof at a time, instead of leaping as it always had. It moved slower, but steadier with every step.

As the fog slowly cleared, the young goat found it had reached a safe grassy meadow without a scratch. From that day on, it learned to always move carefully — especially when the path ahead wasn't clear.

When you can't see the way ahead, care and patience matter more than speed.
